What to do if you test positive for covid whilst in Tenerife

This article will help you understand what to do if you become infected whilst visiting Tenerife.

What happens if you test positive

If you do test positive you will be unable to travel on your original flight and will need to extend your stay and quarantine in accommodation, so make sure you have enough money or access to money in case your insurance asks you to pay upfront. If you are self-catering you will need money for food and drink deliveries.

Most hotels will try and accommodate you but it is not guaranteed, you may be transferred to another hotel and there is a chance it is not a like-for-like (for example you may be moved from a 5 star to a 3 star hotel). Most hotels will deliver meals to your room three times a day.

You will need to isolate yourself in your room for the full quarantine period, which as of this writing is 7 days.

Hints and tips

  • Pack some free NHS testing kits, you can then check your covid status during your isolation.
  • Check your insurance cover before you travel, make sure you are covered incase you test positive.
  • If you don't have travel insurance the canary island will provide you with an AXA policy free of charge to cover expenses relating to covid (T&C Apply) but do not rely on this!

Useful contacts
